The photovoltaic solar power plant in the Disneyland Paris car park is now 100% operational. After 3 years of work, 11,200 spaces have been covered with solar panels that will produce 36 GWh of green electricity a year.
An innovative and ambitious project
As part of its commitment to the environment, in 2020 Disneyland Paris and the Urbasolar group launched the construction of Europe’s largest photovoltaic power plant in parking canopies
Now complete, this project is exemplary from an environmental, esthetic and technological point of view.
It covers 20 hectares of car park with 82,000 solar panels, with a total output of 36.1 MWp.
These panels will cover the 11,200 parking spaces for light vehicles, motorhomes and tourist buses.
The project is also part of Disneyland Paris’ climate change adaptation plan, significantly reducing the heat island in the visitor car park.
The photovoltaic power station produces 36 GWh of carbon-free electricity a year, technically enough renewable energy to supply around 17% of Disneyland Paris’s current electricity consumption (equivalent to the consumption of a town of 17,400 inhabitants!).
A partnership that meets the respective commitments of the 2 groups
The project, entirely tailor-made and carried out in partnership and co-investment with Disneyland Paris, is in line with Urbasolar’s innovation strategy in terms of system control and on-site energy management, but also with Disneyland Paris’ environmental strategy, which aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and decarbonise its energy supply. These shading systems will help to reduce 890 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year in the Val d’Europe area.
« The installation of these photovoltaic car park canopies is part of our energy and decarbonisation strategy, which involves developing renewable energy projects. The installation will also help our site to adapt to climate change by combating heat islands. What’s more, it fulfils our ongoing mission to enhance the visitor experience. In fact, thanks to the shaded areas, not only will we be producing renewable, low-carbon electricity locally, but we will also be offering visitors comfort by protecting them from the heat, rain and snow in winter, whether they come by car, camper van or bus.».
Damien AUDRIC, Director of Planning and Environment.
« It’s a real success for Urbasolar to commission the largest solar power plant in Europe! We have built up a relationship of trust with the Disneyland Paris group, enabling us to work together to promote the energy transition and the decarbonisation of leisure facilities. Through our projects, our group is committed to offering structures that meet the highest quality standards, while satisfying both environmental and aesthetic requirements. »
