Urbasolar signs a financial agreement with the EBRD for the first ground-mounted power plant in Kazakhstan!

The Zadarya solar power plant project will add 14 MW of solar capacity to Kazakhstan’s energy mix, for a total of 365 MW of existing and planned solar energy!
The solar park project will be constructed by Kaz Green Tek Solar, LLP, established in Kazakhstan and majority owned by Urbasolar.
The loan agreements were signed during the 8th session of the IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency) assembly, in Abu-Dhabi, on January 13th, 2018.
In parallel, a project support agreement from the Kazakhstan Ministry of Energy was also signed, on the same occasion, by the Minister, Mr. Kanat Bozoumbaiev.
The Urbasolar group has been active in Kazakhstan since 2012, the year the company installed several solar roofs in Astana, becoming a pioneer of renewable energy in the country. The group will respond to the call for offers that will be published in 2018; the preparation of the projects will be carried out with the EBRD.
“The support of the Kazakhstani government has played a decisive role in this project. The partnership with the EBRD heralds numerous other power plant projects in the years to come, in keeping with the group’s goals in this country.” said Stéphanie Andrieu, CEO of Urbasolar.
“We are convinced that photovoltaic technology will play a major role in the electricity production of Kazakhstan and Central Asia. This project will demonstrate the technical performance and the economic viability of this type of plant. For 4 years, we have worked on preparing this project and collaboration with the EBRD and local partners has been a key factor not only in its success, but also that of future developments.” said Arnaud Mine, President of Urbasolar.
