The Lot-et-Garonne region: Urbasolar and Montpouillan town council finalize their partnership to build a 26.8 MWp floating solar power plant

On Friday June 07, photovoltaic solar power expert Urbasolar and the commune of Montpouillan signed a lease agreement marking the launch of a large-scale floating solar power project in the department.

In the presence of elected representatives from Montpouillan town council, SEM 47 (Société d’Economie Mixte pour l’Aménagement et l’Equipement du Lot et Garonne) and the Urbasolar group, the emphyteutic lease agreement for the construction of a floating solar power plant on a former gravel pit was signed.

Supported by the municipality, which owns the land, the photovoltaic project will enable the site to be upgraded as a source of green energy production. The local players chose to work with the Urbasolar group for its extensive technical expertise and knowledge of the area. With 4 floating solar power plants in operation (at Peyssies, Carbonne, Salles-sur-Garonne and Noyant-Villages) and 8 under development in France, Urbasolar is one of the leaders in the floating photovoltaic sector in France. The group is also well known in the department for the Walygator Sud-Ouest / Aqualand Agen parking lot shading systems, the Sos ground-mounted solar power plant, and a land-based and floating project in Aiguillon which is due to be commissioned very shortly.

The Montpouillan “Les Sables” floating solar power plant will extend over a 23-hectare stretch of water in a fenced-in area of almost 40 hectares, and will develop a capacity of 26.8 MWp. Its annual production of around 32,455 MWh will correspond to the electricity consumption of almost 15,000 people.
The Urbasolar Group is committed to integrating its projects into the surrounding landscape, and is planning a number of environmental measures for the park, including reinforcing the hedges around the lake, protecting the flora and fauna, and enhancing the educational value of the site.

The signing of this project testifies to Urbasolar’s strong desire to support local authorities and players in the energy transition with innovative, sustainable projects that are integrated into the local area.
