Urbasolar and the municipality of Saint-Eulien inaugurate a solar power plant on a former military base

The commune of Saint-Eulien in the Marne region of France and renewable electricity producer Urbasolar today inaugurated a 7.7 MWp solar power plant.

The Saint-Eulien solar power plant was inaugurated today in the presence of Régis VALTON, Mayor of Saint-Eulien, and Jean-Yves MARIN, representative of the President of the Saint-Dizier et Blaise Urban Community, as well as numerous elected representatives and members of Urbasolar.

An exemplary conversion to renewable energies

Located on the former Saint-Eulien military base, the photovoltaic power plant developed by the Urbasolar group symbolizes the conversion of this site in favor of renewable energies.
Left as a wasteland since their purchase by the municipality of Saint-Eulien in 2006, the land has found a new vocation, with the installation of more than 15,000 solar panels on an 8-hectare site, producing 10,609 MWh of green electricity per year, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 5,000 people – 10 times the population of Saint-Eulien!

Respect for biodiversity at the heart of the project

Sensitive to the environmental challenges of the sites where the Urbasolar group installs its solar power plants, a number of measures in favor of biodiversity have been implemented at Saint-Eulien. These include the avoidance of biodiversity hotspots on site, as well as the creation of bird feeding and breeding habitats outside the power plant. As a result, cultivated areas have been converted to hay meadows, and some 1,600 shrubs have been planted, providing essential natural refuges for a number of local species. All these actions have enriched the biodiversity of the site and its surroundings.
This solar park is testimony to the Saint-Eulien municipality’s strong commitment to the energy transition, and to the Urbasolar group’s determination to support local authorities in this process.
