This project straddles the neighboring communities of Nizas and Lézignan-la-Cèbe and is sited in the former Plateau de l'Arnet basalt quarry. The project has been supported by the 2 communities who wanted to re-purpose the site and use it to produce renewable energy. The nature of the site's soil (basalt) meant the installations required a special technical design based on non-intrusive solutions. One of the main issues faced by the project was to preserve and maintain the quality of the site's ecology through various environmental measures (conservation of existing ponds and creation of new ones, reptile houses, undisturbed areas for the population of European eagle-owls, etc.). In partnership with Urbasolar, the vegetation covering the grounds of the power plant would be maintained through sheep grazing, managed by a shepherd based in Nizas, and a local beekeeper has also installed 80 hives around the edges of the solar energy plant. Besides converting the site into a source of renewable energy, this energy farm is also a good example of the environmental opportunities represented by the installation of a photovoltaic power plant.
