Located in a former open clay quarry which ended production in 2015 after 15 years of material extraction, the local community hoped that this project would breathe new life into a run-down area. The municipality of Nersac took the initiative to acquire the property, with a view to developing it into a solar energy plant. The municipality's bold move is part of a local desire to add value to the area's property portfolio, diversify the local economy and participate actively towards the goals of the TEPOS (POSitive Energy Area) project, set by the Grand Angoulême urban agglomeration. The ecology and geology of the site and its environs, along with issues of the local population, have been studied, amongst other things, in order to ensure the project's scope respects its environment as much as possible.
